"Bahhh, I'm not flirtin' with you. Is there somethin' wrong with bein' buddy-buddy with you?" she grumbled as she leaned against Octavia, the hoof around her shoulder gently and repeatedly patting her. "And you keep waitin' for that 'right pony' to come along, I hope you're willin' to wait a long time, 'cause that stuff only happens in books. Really drawn out, sappy, baaaaad books. And we're not in somepony's story. S'real life we're talkin' about here."  She scrunched her nose again when Octavia told her to not let the alcohol talk for her, followed by her reaching out for the last shot glass. "I'llll take that for you," she said before yoinking the glass and swallowing it quickly.

"Now youu listen here," she said as she pushed herself up a little bit, just enough that she could look Octavia clearly in the face. "I know exactly what I'm sayin'. I'm not drunk yet. Gonna need a few more shots for that! But yeah, this isn't the alcohol talkin' for me. It's me talkin' for me! As if there was any other way. But yeah," she repeated, reaching a hoof up to pat Octavia's cheek. "You're a beautiful pony, an' you can do anythin' you want. Makes me jealous sometimes, you know? S'like, damn, sure wish I could be that pretty an'--an' eloqua... elaqui... graceful sometimes." She then inspected Octavia for a moment before leaning forward and planting a rather graceless kiss on her cheek before slumping against her and burping quietly. "I need more drinks."

Octavia eyed Vinyl cautiously as she spoke, now somewhat miffed at her cliche` comparison between real life and fairy-tales. It was something that was thrown around freely in Canterlot to encourage hard work, but it was like a noose to impressionable, young fillies that were born and raised there. This is real life, the would say. Fairy-tales falsely teach that everything is handed to you on a silver platter, they would say. You have to work hard to be successful in life... That was true, for the most part, and that's exactly what Octavia did. She may have been talented, but she didn't earn her position in the Symphony due to political ties or mudslinging. She worked for her spot. But was it really so bad to believe that something good might happen just... just because? If the stars and the planets aligned to bestow something good, would somepony still refuse it?

"They're not bad books..." the mare finally replied, now eying Vinyl with a bit of scrutiny as she downed the last shot. "I am well aware of that notion, Vinyl. It's been told to me all my life. Still... Is it so wrong for me to think that way?" Octavia shrugged and turned her head to match Vinyl's gaze, now blushing fiercely at her rather forward compliments. The unexpected kiss on the cheek threw the mare through a loop, causing her to blush even more and giggle uncontrollably. "Okay, okay," she stuttered, giving Vinyl a rather tight hug... At least until Vinyl burped... "We'll split it, then. fifty percent you, fifty percent alcohol, because it's very rare that you're this forward and... cuddly..." Octavia wasn't quite sure why she used that particular word, but she felt a bit more relaxed as she leaned into Vinyl a bit more, now resting her head on her shoulder. "More drinks might be a bad idea, Vinyl. I don't want to have to carry you out like last time, considering I'm barely in any position to walk in a straight line right now. And who says that you're not beautiful and can't do anything you want? Quite the contrary, Vinyl. You get tons of dates, and you got your career off the ground before I did. So sush.~"

Vinyl grumbled a little bit after Octavia said more drinks was a bad idea, a little disgruntled at being cut off from that sweet nectar. "Knew I shoulda bought more," she said to herself, staring longingly at the platter of twelve now-empty shot glasses. Then, as Octavia began to compliment her as well, Vinyl's ears perked as she listened to the mare speak, not pulling away from the little embrace to look at her. Instead, her gaze remained on the empty reminders in front of her, even as Octavia fell silent and it was her turn to speak now. Definitely could've used more drinks.

"Bleh, yeah, I got all those dates... But... I dunno. Sometimes they just feel so pointless. Like I'm not gettin' anything out of 'em. And I only got my career off the ground 'fore you did 'cause my stuff was so... diff'rent. You didn't have that. All you had was fightin' tooth and hoof to make yourself known." Her words began to grow more and more dejected as she spoke, until eventually she was murmuring in disappointment. She stayed silent for a moment before levitating her glasses off of the cello's case and over to her, the glasses swaying a little bit in the air thanks to her tipsiness. She then slipped them onto her face to hide the melancholy that had begun to creep into her features, only hoping that Octavia hadn't really noticed or would comment on it. "You sure we can't get more drinks? If not, I think I wanna go back home, now..."

Octavia peeped open an eye as the silence began to linger, but she didn't pull away to look at Vinyl... The mare didn't even need to look at her to tell that something was digging underneath her skin. As much as the DJ tried to hide it, Octavia could see right through her, too. While her sudden change in mood could be a product of the alcohol, something was telling Octavia that there was a bit more to the untold story. Just the way Vinyl spoke and dropped off was enough to tell her something was wrong, even the way she wore those silly glasses. She sighed, trying to think of something to say to alleviate the mood a bit...

"You make it sound like I have a leg up over you, Vi. Your music may have been different, and despite how often I tease you about it, it's still music." Octavia spoke softly, giving her friend a bit of a hug. "Do you know how many ponies would give their two front hooves to be as good as you? Just the fact that you're the best, and still the best, despite all the other artists clamoring for that number one spot... Now that takes some hard work and talent. I've been to some of your shows... And let me tell you, that's something else. I only wish I could get that kind of turnout for my performances and command that stage like you do." Octavia grinned, giggling softly to herself as she recalled the last performance she attended where Vinyl literally dragged her on stage by the tail for her finale. "You certainly know how to turn everything into a fun time, even for a pony like me. Like dragging me on stage." She chuckled again, hugging Vinyl even tighter.

After a bit of thought, Octavia pulled away a little bit, reaching a hoof around to lift Vinyl's shades up a bit to look clearly into her eyes. "You say this to me all the time, Vi, so I'm going to say it to you now. What do you do when you start feeling sad?" She paused for a moment, watching Vinyl's reaction. "You stop being sad, and you start being awesome instead!~" The cellist smiled warmly and leaned into her again, letting Vinyl's shades fall back into their original position. "We can get more drinks... If you want. As long as we don't get kicked out. Or we could go back home and relax. Or... We could stay like this for a little bit. It's... nice. Perhaps we should do this more often, but without the sad." Octavia moved her hooves down a bit, now wrapping around Vinyl's waist. "One more thing... If I don't see you smile, I'm going to be forced to tickle you until you do.~"

Continuing in her melancholic slump, Vinyl only listened to Octavia with her ears folded down, her head turned away a little bit from the mare she was against. Despite what was being said, she didn't really feel like she had it better off than Octavia did. Just seemed like she was still in that number one spot that was mentioned because of ponies' nostalgia, and the fact that she was already so famous. And the shows... the shows were just gimmicks. Part of the entertainment. When ponies went to see Octavia, they went to see her, not the pretty lights and pyrotechnics... Still, Octavia's mentioning of dragging her onto the stage by the tail earned her a small smile that lasted for a moment before her jealousy and sadness wiped it away again.

Then, as Octavia pushed her shades up a little bit, Vinyl averted her eyes away from her friend, a little ashamed of herself and how she was acting. She stayed this way until Octavia asked what Vinyl usually said when Octavia was feeling sad, causing Vinyl to make eye contact with her for a moment. 'You stop being sad, and you start being awesome instead', was the answer, which... she guessed she really should follow, if that's what she was going to tell other ponies to do. She inhaled slowly through her nostrils before releasing the breath in a quiet sigh, just before Octavia said she'd have to tickle Vinyl if she didn't smile. "Maybe you can do that when we get back home," she said as she hugged Octavia back in thanks before releasing her hold on the mare and beginning to scoot back around the booth so she could stand up.

"A good laugh'll prolly do me good. Then we can keep sittin' like that again after since you enjoyed it, I guess," she said with a slight shrug, swaying gently in place as she waited for the mare to join her so they could leave the bar. "Just think maybe it's time for a change of scenery." She then stood and waited for Octavia to join her before walking with her outside and into Ponyville, doing her best to walk without stumbling. "Thanks, Octy. Guess I kinda ruined the whole 'tryin' to cheer you up thing'. S'just... stuff that's been botherin' me for a while that I didn't really expect to be dealin' with today." She paused for a moment before glancing over to the mare, a very faint smile on her lips. "Still doesn't fix the whole me bein' jealous of you bein' a beautiful pony thing, though. I mean, how many guys've I had to run off for you when we were both in Canterlot 'cause they were bein' snobs an' you didn't wanna deal with 'em? Way too many."

Octavia simply watched Vinyl as she moved back around the booth to stand up... Albeit wobbly, she seemed to be holding up okay. The mare frowned to herself, trying to find the drive to stand up as she half-rolled out of the seat onto her hooves, taking a couple steps back as she tried to find her balance. Octavia reached out to support herself against the wall for a moment, but instead braced herself on what looked like... a cello... "Oh horseapples!" She had completely forgot about carrying her instrument inside, and while cellos aren't particularly heavy, she wasn't sure if she'd be able to carry it with her lack of balance and coordination. At least the room stopped spinning... Octavia huffed and dug out the straps, sliding it over her shoulders to wear like a big backpack. While she didn't like carrying it this way, she didn't have much of a choice...

It took the mare a few moments, but she recovered enough to follow Vinyl outside, also trying her best to not stumble while accommodating the weight of her instrument. "About a dozen, to be exact," Octavia replied flatly, following closely beside the DJ. "And that was spread out over a couple years. Although, the last couple had to be my favorite. I remember getting onto you for threatening to clobber some creepy, poor sod for stalking me. So then you pretended to be my marefriend for the day. While it was a rather unorthodox and... unexpected approach, it worked. And the look on their faces were priceless." Octavia giggled quietly to herself as she reminisced... Her friends still teased her about that one, but she didn't care. "Maybe we can talk about it some more once we get back. We have to look out for each other, right? Besides, Vi, you're not giving yourself enough credit. Allow me to say this directly: You. Are. Beautiful. Too. And you're beautiful to me." She paused for a moment, a smile playing on her lips. Although, the cellist couldn't help but wonder if the alcohol was talking for her now, given her choice of words. "That's twice now that you've said that. Say it again, and I'll smack you upside the head." Octavia grinned, giving Vinyl a slight nudge.

Vinyl just rolled her eyes a bit behind her glasses when Octavia corrected her about the number of guys she'd had to chase off. Ten, twelve, twenty... What did it matter what the number was, just as long as she kept Octavia from being harassed? Although, Vinyl's melancholic expression began to brighten into a grin as Octavia began recalling the time Vinyl had threatened to beat somepony up for being really weird, then started acting as Octavia's marefriend instead. Good times. And even though she hadn't really done anything further with Octavia that time... She still thought about it every now and then. How the idea of it wasn't all that bad. How she did kind of enjoy being that close to 'Tavi that day.

She nodded slightly as Octavia suggested talking about it more once they got back home, actually kind of looking forward to that as she thought about that day and what had been done. Then, Vinyl glanced over to Octavia when she said that Vinyl was beautiful to her, surprised that she was so... forward about that. Did she mean anything by that? How long had she thought that? Questions like that circled in Vinyl's head as she walked/stumbled beside Octavia to the house they shared, silent for the most part. When they arrived, she opened the door for them both before stepping in and closing the door behind Octavia. She then moved to the couch in the living room and flopped down on it, glad for something stable underneath her. She waited there for Octavia to join her, before shakily moving so she could once more lean against the mare. "So... Let's talk. You ever think about that day I pretended to be your marefriend to keep the creeps at bay? 'Cause... well, I do. And I get all fuzzy thinkin' about it~... Or, maybe that's the alcohol. Either way, question still stands."

With a rather loud grunt, Octavia heaved the cello off of her shoulders to prop it up against the corner, nearly losing her balance completely as she stumbled and caught herself against the wall with a loud thud. Smooth... The mare sighed, allowing her senses to readjust before flopping on the couch herself, which only proved to further disorientate her. She lied still for a moment, eventually sitting up as Vinyl shifted over to lean on her again. "You didn't see that...," she said sorely, or even perhaps a little embarrassed. The cellist wasn't accustomed to not having absolute control over herself, and it kind of bugged her. This was probably the last time she would drink for awhile...

Octavia's ears perked a bit as Vinyl began to speak, questioning to herself why Vinyl was revisiting the subject. Her soft gaze drooped in thought as she attempted to weed out Vinyl's words apart from her usual drunken statements, which surprisingly seemed to be rather tame this time around. Even if she answered the question, where was this particular line of conversation leading, anyways? Octavia smiled to herself... She'll play Vinyl's game and see where it would lead... "Do I ever think about it? From time to time... Although I'm reminded of it every so often when I stroll around Canterlot. Some ponies up there made it a point to remember and like to poke fun at me, but it doesn't bother me. I'm actually rather fond of that memory, shenanigans and all." Octavia turned her gaze on Vinyl, wondering how long it would take for her to sober up again. "By the way... Those shades still look silly."

Vinyl continued grinning to herself while Octavia revisited those moments back in Canterlot in question, and mentioned being reminded of it every so often. She was fond of it, which was good. Certainly wouldn't have felt all that good if Octavia said she'd been embarrassed by what happened... But, she had to wonder, just how fond was she of it? Would she go for Vinyl trying to do that again in an attempt to help cheer her up? Where was all of this even coming from? Wherever or whatever it was, Octavia sure was pretty... As she stared over at the mare and thought about that, it was mentioned once again that her glasses looked silly, causing Vinyl to scrunch her nose a bit as she lifted a hoof to take them from her eyes. "Pfffff, your fffface looks silly," she said as she did so, then set the glasses down safe nearby. "Lookin' all grey and... fuzzy, an'..."

She didn't manage to finish her train of thought, because as she said 'fuzzy', she rose a hoof to stroke Octavia's cheek and jaw, lost in the action for a few moments before abruptly pushing herself up from the couch. "'Kay, gotta pee," was the blunt reason she gave as she moved into another room. A few moments passed, then she came back and returned to her spot on the couch, this time lying down on her back so her head was in Octavia's lap. "Mmk, time to stop bein' sad, and time to be awesome instead. Tell you wwwhat, since you're so fond of those memories, I'ma help you stop feelin' so alone by bein' your marefriend again. Even though you totally jus' wanna get in my pants," she said with a giggle as she squirmed against Octavia.

Octavia grinned slightly at Vinyl's 'clever rebuttal' against the cellist's remark about her glasses. Eyup... That's Vinyl for you. At least the DJ actually took them off this time. Octavia never really had any problem with those shades. They may have looked clumsy and unorthodox, but it was the frequency at which Vinyl wore them that bothered the cellist. Heck, she'd often sleep with them on, for whatever reason Octavia could never decipher. The thought suddenly occurred to Octavia that she didn't like those glasses because she couldn't see into Vinyl's eyes when they were talking... She was aware of Vinyl's touch against her face, but her thought process was immediately derailed when Vinyl made her sudden proclamation about having to use the bathroom.

The mare shook her head and rolled her eyes as Vinyl left and returned, a tiny smile playing at her lips. "You know, a simple 'be right back' would have sufficed just as well. But it's all right." Octavia knew that Vinyl could exercise a bit of tact... If she really wanted to. Then again, it was probably the product of alcohol... Yet another thought suddenly occurred to Octavia. Due to the cellist's lifestyle, she would have immediately discredited anypony who harbored such habits as Vinyl. And while it was true that they fought more often than not when they had first moved in, she had grown quite... fond... of Vinyl's peculiar and sometimes unkempt habits. In fact, it would sometimes cause her to involuntarily smile, such as what had just happened now... And once more, her train of thought crashed as Vinyl continued speaking.

She sat stock still for a moment, wondering if she heard what Vinyl had said correctly. That was a bold statement, even if she was drunk. Octavia's first thought was to immediately question it, but what the mare said next surprised even herself. "Vinyl, dear, I don't think I've even seen you wear pants. Or practically anything, for that matter." Octavia remained still for a few more moments, mulling over the statement in her head... And then she broke out in laughter, border lining a giggle-fit. But she wasn't laughing at Vinyl, or even the idea, for that matter. It was a true, heartfelt thing, if a laugh could be described as such. "You would really do that for me? You know you don't really have to do that... Would you?" She was running circles around herself, unsure of what to think of the matter. "Are you sure that's not the alcohol talking?"

Vinyl only huffed at Octavia's procalamation that she'd never seen the mare wear anything, her nose scrunched as well. "Totally not the point," she grumped, before staring up at Octavia in confusion when the mare began laughing. "Wut. Have you lost your mind, woman?" Vinyl asked, not really seeing what was so funny. She just stared up at Octavia with slightly crossed eyes, before rolling them after it was asked if Vinyl would really do what she said she would, followed by a scoff when Octavia asked if she was sure it wasn't the alcohol talking. After the question, Vinyl moved again so she could pull herself up and into Octavia's lap, settling herself in there before wrapping her hooves around the mare's shoulders.

"'Tavi, you sssilly... You know alcohol can't talk. I mean, what would it even say, if it could? 'Driiiiiiink meeeeeeee'?" she asked in a higher pitched voice, possibly trying to imitate what a tiny object might sound like. "That'd be silly. You're silly," Vinyl continued, this time just staring at Octavia for a few seconds after without answering her other questions. However, she seemed to remember herself and blinked before speaking again. "Anyway, I said I'd do it, wouldn't I? So 'course I'm gonna do that for you. An' for me too, have I told you how prrrretty you are? An' fuzzy, too," she drawled as she took one of her hooves from Octavia's shoulders to stroke her cheek again. "An' you can be my marefriend too, 'kay?"

Octavia couldn't help but snicker at Vinyl's high pitched voice, but she otherwise remained relatively silent and still as the DJ continued to speak and re-situate herself... Her gaze never really returned to Vinyl, however, as they were now locked on a nearby pillow. She was in deep thought, her brows furrowed slightly as she wrestled both mentally and emotionally with the idea, weighing out the pros and cons of dedicating herself to such a commitment. On one hoof, they were bound to be happy... But how long would it last? What if something went wrong? Was it something one or both would regret come tomorrow? Octavia blinked and sighed quietly to herself. Too many questions and 'what ifs' came to mind, yet despite all these questions, she somehow felt more comfortable with Vinyl than anypony else she had been with for any length of time.

"You know what?" You're silly!" Octavia glanced down at Vinyl for a moment, wondering just how comfortable she was.... And then a sly grin crept along the mare's face as she slowly leaned in closer and closer... And then suddenly turned the tables as she wrapped herself around Vinyl like a vice and began to tickle her. "I asked you not even an hour ago if you were hitting on me, and you said no. What's this, then? Hmm?" The mare stopped for a moment, now grinning ear to ear as she relaxed her hold. "Well, since you're obviously giving me no choice in the matter, I suppose I'll just have to accept," she stated jokingly, perhaps even playfully. "You're a braver mare than I. And by the way..." Octavia lowered her voice to a whisper. "We're all fuzzy."

Continuing to gently stroke Octavia's cheek, the slightly inebriated DJ stared at Octavia expectantly, obviously waiting for some kind of answer. In the meantime, Vinyl just contented herself with feeling how fuzzy Octavia was, the sensation apparently strange--or perhaps pleasant--to the touch. However, as she noticed Octavia leaning forward, closer and closer, Vinyl felt her breath catch in her throat as she paused, mind not sure whether it liked where things seemed to be going. It didn't have to make much of a choice though, as she soon began squirming and cackling under the onslaught of Octavia's tickling hooves, her own hooves pulling away from around Octy's shoulders so she could tuck her legs close to her body in an attempt to free herself from the sensitive torture.

She didn't even hear what Octavia had to say about Vinyl's earlier statement that she hadn't been hitting on the mare because of what was happening, though when Octavia finally let her catch her breath, she was able to just lay there in her hooves, legs still held tight against her body for a few more moments. She groaned against Octavia as she recovered, before perking her ears up when Octavia accepted Vinyl's terms, causing her own crooked grin to spread on her lips--until Octavia told her they were all fuzzy. Scoffing at that, Vinyl unsteadily repositioned herself back upright in Octavia's lap before setting a hoof over the mare's mouth. "Don'ccchhhhhu go 'round spreadin' rumors like that, Octypus. Can you imagine the paparazzi if that got out?"

She burped a little bit after that--possibly some kind of added protest provided by her body--before she began patting Octavia's snout with her hoof. "Image nightmare, lemme tell you. Oh, and," she brought her head forward, turning Octavia's head slightly at the same time so she could leave another kiss on the mare's cheek. "Had to do it 'cause we're marefriends now! Also 'cause I couldn't resist it anymore after sittin' like this." She squirmed a little bit more in Octavia's lap before she let out an 'ooooh' and rolled out of Octavia's lap. "New song idea. Berb," she said before trotting unsteadily into her studio, only to trot back out and retrieve her glasses, before trotting back into the studio, then trotting back out again--wearing her glasses--to grab another bottle of alcohol from the cooler, followed by her trotting back into the studio, and then, of course, her trotting back out. Only this time, she got distracted the moment she saw Octavia and moved over to her, 'greeting' her with a tight hug. "'Tavi~. I missed my favorite marefriend. How yyyou doin'?"

Octavia laughed nervously at Vinyl's next remark, although rumors regarding their apparent 'fuzziness' were the furthest from her mind. She could see it all now... The paparazzi in general were cunning, and some were genuinely ruthless when it came to stories that were perceived 'out of the norm'. While two mares diving headfirst into a relationship was hardly newsworthy, it would indeed prove to be an image nightmare for somepony such as herself and Vinyl. Octavia was a refined member of the Canterlot Symphony, and Vinyl Scratch likewise shared a similar prestige pursuing her own venue of music. The paparazzi would be all over the story like fruit bats to apples... The fact of the matter, however, was that the news would get out one way or the other, and instead of trying to prevent it, Octavia simply resigned to be prepared. Who knows? Perhaps it would be good for a change.

The cellist scrunched up her snout slightly after Vinyl belched, waving a hoof dismissively in front of her nose. "You needn't worry, Vinyl, dear. I won't tell a soul about our fuzziness. Or lack thereof, if you prefer." The mare clamped onto Vinyl for a little while longer, blushing lightly as she was kissed on the cheek. Octavia couldn't help but wonder if Vinyl would remain this affectionate as time would go on, and how this would affect their friendship overall... While she didn't seem very excited at the moment, Octavia was beyond ecstatic; she just didn't quite know how to show it without being overly-awkward on the matter... She reluctantly let Vinyl go as the DJ proceeded to wander back and forth between her studio and the living room, seemingly forgetting something each time until Vinyl ultimately stopped to give the cellist a hug.

"Uhh... I'm doing fine, Vi," Octavia replied, albeit with a hint of confusion as she returned the hug with a bright smile. "You mentioned something about a song idea? Or did you decide against it?" With all that had just happened in the course of the past couple hours or so, it was possible that Vinyl had simply just... forgot already. Or got distracted. Or both. Octavia chuckled to herself... This was going to be more fun than she thought.

"Gooooooooood," Vinyl hummed in response as Octavia returned the hug, her cheek slowly rubbing against the mare as she wore a pleased smile, her eyes closed. After Octavia asked about the song idea and what her plan was with it, Vinyl said, "Yeah, yeah, song later. Rest now." With that, Vinyl abandoned the embrace and scrambled up onto the couch before lying down on it and reaching her hooves out for Vinyl like a child grabbing at their just-out-of-reach stuffed animal. "C'moooon, sleep with me, Octypus," she begged, her intentions not matching up with her words as she involuntarily widened her mouth in a yawn, her glasses still covering her eyes.
