Ponyville / Re: NN: Something Sweet to Bite
« on: October 31, 2014, 02:25:45 pm »
"Nightmare Night! What a fright! Give us something sweet to bite!"

Ah... Excellent. The first victim--er... guest has arrived. How utterly... delectable.~

Ivory slinks her way silently down the steps into her living room, slithering up to the front door to have herself a better look at her meal-- visitor... that lied in wait beyond its wooden frame. Her house was completely void of any light save for the sparse decorations that littered the adjacent yards, giving absolutely no indication that anypony, or anything for that matter, resided inside. The Noctral lets her eyes do the work, naturally; blood-red irises peek curiously, hungrily through the windowed cut-out about halfway up the door. The silvery light of the full moon would have been more than enough to distinguish the figures of the three tasty morsels-- fillies... that perched upon her doorstep. Ivory cants her head to one side to study the foals' chosen apparel for the night, her hoof poised upon the door's handle as if she ready to strike at a mere moment's notice.

No... Not yet...

The first was difficult to make out. A ghost, perhaps? Ivory's eye catches a gleam, a reflection from two, spherical objects meant to represent eyes, followed by a pair of long, crudely made antennae. A parasprite. How delightfully quaint. Ivory shifts her gaze to the second. A colt, she thinks, with makeup stains smeared all over his body and mane, now matted with a tangible greasiness. A clown, more than likely, given that his meritable attempt was obviously self-serviced and done without the aid of a mirror. The third, however, more than made up for the other two. Dressed in a white, flowing gown adorned with various faux gems of every size and color, the tiny mare shone brilliantly against the moonlight. The two small cut-outs on her side defined the filly as a Pegasus, and a cute one at that. Ivory's eyes were then drawn to the mare's face, noticing a protrusion extending from the center of her forehead: a unicorn horn deftly constructed out of acrylic and cardboard. A princess! Ivory licked her fangs... Oh, this will be fun!

Just as the three fillies turn to depart with somber expressions, convinced that nopony was home, Ivory teasingly jiggles the door handle. All three pairs of ears shoot straight up, but the first to turn around was... The princess. Perfect.

Ivory springs her trap, flinging the door open with a loud crack as it slams into the side of her house. The princess' companions scream, but Ivory wasn't done quite yet. With a bone-chilling, maniacal laugh, the Noctral steps forth into the moonlight and unfurls her wings, illuminating her grotesque, fearsome form. Her coat was dyed pitch-black, its natural reflective color fighting through the ink to give off an eerie, ominous glow. Throughout her limbs and wings, the ink became mottled in appearance, creating the illusion of what could only be perceived as see-through, gaping holes. Crimson, magically altered eyes lock squarely upon the would-be princess, hungrily swathing over her form like a delectable, bite-sized treat. Ivory's mane and tail remained virtually unchanged, albeit splayed at its ends to partially cover her own wicked, finely crafted horn: a gnarled, blackened thing that seemed to glow as eerily as she was. After a brief pause for dramatic effect, Ivory smiles, revealing a row of sharpened teeth before drawing herself menacingly close to the princess and her entourage.

Only... Her entourage was nowhere to be found. The moment Ivory stepped out from the shadow of her doorway, the other two scrambled for cover behind a nearby decoration. A large carving of a pumpkin, as it were. The princess, however, had an unexpected reaction. She stands resolute, unflinching in the terror that caused her companions to flee. The little mare tilts her head as if she was studying Ivory, gauging if the Noctral-turned-Changeling was all bark and no bite. Turns out... The princess was right.

With a smile that can melt even the darkest of hearts, the filly proclaimed, "Nightmare Night! What a fright! Give me something sweet to bite!"

It was almost too cute to bear. Especially that emphasis on me...

"Allright, allright. You win, little princess." At least Ivory's voice hasn't changed, still as soothing and melodious as ever. Ivory recants, almost disappointed she wasn't able to scare her, too. Two out of three wasn't bad, right? Ivory disappears within her doorway for a few moments, promptly returning with a generous amount of candy. By now, the princess' two friends had returned by her side, obviously ashamed they had been beaten out by a girl. Ivory couldn't help but chuckle as she passes out her trove of sweets by the hoof-full, fittingly amused by the turn of events. "Run along now! And don't let the Changelings catch you!~"

Ivory waves them off before silently closing the door behind her, now quite convinced that her costume would induce a good scare. Only one thought burns in her mind: who should be her next victim-- target... to scare? She races through different options, tapping a forehoof to her chin in thought before ultimately deciding the best thing to do is hunt-- wander... around the Town Square. With all the festivities and games corralled into one place, ponies would be ripe for the picking! With a small hum of approval, the Noctral takes to the sky and makes her way over to the gathering.

Already she spots a figure trotting down to the Square, her flowing red cape easy to spot from above. Or at least Ivory thinks the pony is a she... Upon closer inspection, Ivory notices that the mysterious pony was dressed up as the iconic comic-book superstar, Supermare. The Noctral mulls about how she should approach the mare, entertaining various scenarios in her head. Should she duck into a nearby hiding spot and jump out at her? Or perhaps just fly straight down? Ivory decidedly chooses the latter, swiftly circling around the Supermare before diving straight at her, emitting a loud hiss as she tears through the air.

Ivory blinks slowly as Schwambart cycles through a variety of emotions, waiting patiently for something solid to respond to. For a brief moment, the mare removed her hoof from Schwmbart's shoulder in an effort to find herself again, blushing every bit as furiously as the green stallion was. The prospect of dating had never really crossed her mind before... She had certainly been hit on in various ways by other ponies, but her mind had always made her work the priority, much to any suitor's disappointment. And yet, Schwambart was a different case; regardless of his true intentions written on that card, Ivory had accepted his proposal without a second thought.

Perhaps it was the green stallion's unique charm? Ivory mused to herself, only to have her thought process derailed when Schwambart grinned from ear to ear, causing the Noctral to smile sheepishly in return. She draped her hoof around his shoulder again, pulling him a bit closer as he began to speak. Well, halfway speak, at least. Ivory glanced at the miscellaneous items that littered the ground, attempting to decipher what the stallion was trying to say. "Would you like some help carrying your stuff back home? I'd be more than happy to escort you." Ivory's tone of voice changed slightly, returning to its more melodious and soothing inflection the mare had used when she first met the Pegasus. "We can always plan for tomorrow... But I would at least like to see you off before you retire for the night. That was a very brave thing, Schwambart..." Without warning, Ivory pulls him into a tight hug, leaving a gentle kiss on his cheek before releasing him. The Noctral immediately goes to work packing and picking up his various belongings, knowing full well that her small act of affection would probably cause him to go giddy again.

"Hey Lamplight," she calls over her shoulder, nomming on one of Schwambart's home-made sweets before stuffing its container into the bag. "Thank you sooooooooooooo so so much for coming out again. I'll be working on something special for the next one, so don't miss out! It just might blow all my other performances away.~"

Ivory would eventually slow down after some time, ultimately stopping all together as she took a few moments to catch her breath while giggling like a school girl. "Oh my... That was fun," she mused to herself, swaying back and forth as she attempted to regain her balance. "I've always wondered why I would get so dizzy doing that, considering how many loops and twirls I do in the air... Perhaps I'm an air pirate!" The Noctral would cover one of her eyes with some of the cards she picked up and reared up on her hind legs. "Yarr! I've not got me groundlegs yet, landlubber!" Needless to say, Ivory wouldn't make a very convincing pirate... After another short laugh, Ivory regained her footing and passed the few cards back to Schwambart, reading the one the green Pegasus gave in return.

"Ah... I apologize, Schwambart. I'll make it up to you. How about-" The mare stopped short as the stallion actually spoke, however brief, before insisting on offering the mare a second card. "So you do have a voice tonight!~ Wouldn't that be easier than... well... this?" Ivory would glance down at the card and start to read. "Besides, I like your voice. Why try to-" She blinked, her eyes flying over the note again. "-hide it...?" It was the Noctral's turn to go silent as she rolled the message around in her mind, her cheeks visibly flaring up a bit before flipping the card over. Her expression suddenly changed from flattered to confused as she flipped the card over again to re-read its first message, ears drooping in momentary sadness. The sides conflicted with one another, so... Which one did he want her to see? The side the Pegasus had given her, of course!

Ivory chuckled softly as she trotted up to Schwambart and sat next to him, casually throwing a hoof around his neck before showing him the first message. "I, Ivory Adagio Star, would be more than flattered to bequeath thee this fine opportunity thou hast surely proposed. 'Twould be a delightful evening, indeed!~" The mare inched her head a bit closer, dropping her terrible forced accent as her voice barely rose above a whisper as she flipped the card over to its other message. "That is, unless you really do have to head back... It is late, so I understand, but... We could plan for later... Right?"

The flustered Noctral could only manage to avert her eyes from Kit as the Gryphon quite shamelessly 'claimed' her victory over the mare. "Careful there, Kit-Kat. You might wake up with a new coat color and painted talons one of these days. Just you wait. And when you find me, I'll be sitting there eating your most favorite wheel of cheese." The mare trailed off as Kit began leave, nodding in affirmation about coming to visit her shop every so often. "I'll be sure to do that, Kit. My offer is still open to model for your lines if you still need one."

Ivory nestled herself a bit atop of the green Pegasus, only to pout playfully as Schwambart somehow maneuvered himself out from underneath her. "Aww! And I was starting to get comfy.~" The mare accepted Schwambart's helping hoof, slowly standing up as she proceeded to brush herself off, stretching her wings a little before they settled back in place. "This whole night has been rather fun," Ivory replied with a smile towards Lamplight. "I really appreciate you coming out again. It's always a challenge to come up with something a little bit different for the regulars to enjoy, so I decided that it was your turn for a little impromptu dance. I hope you didn't mind, haha."

The mare giggled to herself for a moment as she went about to help Schwambart pick up his belongings, imitating a sort of whirling dance as she cheerfully bumped into the two with hopes they would join along in her antics.

Ivory tilted her head slightly, her ears pinning back a little out of curiosity as the Gryphoness spoke. "Teasing? Me? You know I'm awful at that sort of thing..." It was hard to tell if the mare was being sarcastic or not, but she seemed to be totally clueless. Kit's attempt to ruffle the Noctral's mane was met with a soft whine as Ivory reached up in an effort to lazily swat her away, only to start grinning sheepishly at her compliment. "Ya know, Kit, I just fixed my mane. But you probably already knew that, you 'loon. At this rate, don't be surprised if you wind up finding one of your brushes missing."

The mare would proceed to straighten out her mane again, which was truly difficult with clumsy hooves. After a few moments, Ivory would sigh, leaving her mane however messy it might be as she shifted her attention back to Schwambart, who was now hiding his face behind one of his wings. The Noctral blinked, scanning his form with prying, golden eyes. "Aw! Come out of there, silly! Am I truly being that much of a-" Schwambart passed her another card with a rather amusing message. "Tease...?" Ivory blinked again, flipping the card over as she simply stared at the second message, earning an amusing smile after a few moments. "However," she replies after a time, "Can Badger's badgers badgers Badger's badgers?"

It was at this moment that Ivory was caught off-guard as Kit bumped into her. While it wasn't uncommon for Ivory and Kit to surprise and 1-up each other, the Noctral wasn't prepared for a sudden counter-attack as she simply flopped to the side... Right on top of Schwambart... While the mare's short fall didn't nearly constitute a diving save from the green Peagsus, Ivory didn't want to move, or even comment after the fact. Instead, she seemed to blush profusely, giggling quietly as she wrapped her hooves around her 'hero's' neck for a small hug, still laying on top of him. "Now that was unexpected... Thank you, Schwambart.~" She'd stick her tongue out playfully at the Gryphoness, but otherwise makes very little effort to move as she was quite comfortable in her position... Or embarrassed... Or both.

Ivory quirks a curious brow as the green stallion sitting before her began to stumble and trip over his own words... Or word; she wasn't really quite sure at that point... While this wasn't quite an unusual behavior for Schwambart when he got overly flustered, what truly piqued her concern was that his overall color seemed to shift into a light shade of red, which seemed to only grow darker over the course of time. The mare watched him for a moment before shifting her questioning glance to Lamplight, wondering what she should do.

"Uh... Did I miss something while I was gone? Did I accidentally break him?" Ivory was truly clueless at the moment, although her gaze shifted back down to the Pegasus in question as he started to fumble through his vest, ultimately pulling out numerous little cards before hoofing one over to the mare. The Noctral briefly scanned its words, an awkward smile pursing her lips before Schwambart gave her a second one, reading its contents as well. Ivory couldn't help but glance back up at Lamplight, wondering what she thought of this peculiar spectacle. "My oh my," the mare finally replied, now trying to get a good look at just how many cards he had made. "You truly came prepared, didn't you?" Ivory blinked, not quite sure how to progress the conversation. Instead, the mare simply giggled, offering another small hug before pulling away again. "Well, I'm certainly glad you enjoyed yourself, Schwambart. While this may have been just a normal night for most ponies, you certainly made mine much more special." Ivory would absentmindedly shuffle the two cards between her hooves as she spoke, eventually flipping them both over to see if anything was written on the back like many of the others Schwambart had.

Ivory would spend most of her time catching her breath after what some would say a 'stellar' performance, thanking the various musicians for taking part in the act before moving on through the small crowd of ponies that seemed to gather before her. Her lively, golden eyes scanned over each smiling face, their excitement filtering into her own as the Noctral searched for one pony in particular. Knowing him, he probably wouldn't have moved a single inch after her brief, yet affectionate display... Ivory simply giggled at the thought, wondering what could be fluttering through Schwambart's mind as she glanced down upon him during the aerial portion of her performance. She would certainly have to ask, but first, she needed to find him among the ponies that were now scattered across the meadow. Most of them were headed back to their home, no doubt; although the night was yet young, Ivory wouldn't had been able to entertain her audience if they were past the point of fatigue. Grinning and nodding at the various compliments being shouted her way, the Noctral politely excused herself as she pushed her way through, straightening her now disheveled mane before her glowing eyes finally landed on its mark: a green pegasus doing his best impersonation of an imaginary see-saw as if he couldn't decide whether to sit or stand... Ivory couldn't help but chuckle at his actions, knowing all too well that this was well within the scope of Schwambart's silly behavior when he was flustered by the mare. Beaming, the Noctral spryly trotted up to the stallion, offering a small little hug of appreciation. Or perhaps the mare was trying to tease him even more...

"Thank you sooooooooo so so much for coming, Schwambart!" Ivory crooned, releasing the Pegasus as she flopped down on her haunches, still mildly out of breath. "You have no idea how much that means to me... I certainly hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.~" The Noctral averted her eyes for a moment, glancing up at the night sky as the last traces of her shimmering trails faded against the twinkling stars and moon. "So now that you've seen it first-hoof," the mare continued, her gaze now settling upon Schwambart's again. "Would you still like to play and dance with me one of these nights? I would very-" Ivory paused, taking a few extra moments to search the stallion's features for any clues of what he might be thinking at this point. "I would very much like the company..." Her voice became a hushed whisper, but her silly grin remained plastered on her lips. "I think it would be fun," the mare perked up, resuming her normal tone. "And I'll guarantee you'll have the best seat in the house! The sky.~"

Twenty... Twenty-one... Twenty-two... Ivory scanned over all the ponies with meticulous, golden eyes, using a hoof to point as she kept tally of everypony that she saw. A small smile pursed her lips, although it was nowhere near as excited as before... Her mind was completely focused on the show at hoof, and it looked like she had her work cut out for her tonight. Twenty-three... Twenty-four... She had at least two dozen ponies before her, possibly more that she might have skipped over or haven't joined the small crowd yet. Those that have attended her particular performances before had already found their seat in what could be considered the 'front row', although there was technically no 'front'. There wasn't even a stage or any markings to show for it, and the only fixed point seemed to be the musicians who were now quietly tuning their respective instruments. The setup left many of the newcomers confused as they wandered around, trying to find the best place to sit. They were curious, and that's exactly what Ivory wanted.

Whether everypony knew it or not, Ivory's performance had already started. As any practitioner of the arts would tell you, the setup was just as important, if not more important than the act itself. And curiosity was an excellent motivator to open one's mind to the many possibilities that might happen. In fact, it was curiosity that likely brought ponies to Ivory's little show. What was it like? What does she do? Ponies often feel compelled to stick around and find out, and this is what Ivory played on to set up her performance. Unfortunately, however, there seemed to be a fragile balance between curiosity of the unknown, and fear. Despite her loving nature, many ponies were afraid of Ivory at first, and over the years, the Noctral fought to dispel many of the negative stereotypes that often attached itself to her race. And it was all paying off right in front of her as she stepped out towards her audience.

With a small nod of acknowledgement towards the musicians, Ivory produced an elegant tambourine and began to count off. An acoustic guitar headed off the downbeat, playing a rather lively, spry melody while accompanied by a violin and a bass, similar to a medieval jig while Ivory kept time with the steady jingle of her tambourine. The Noctral remained on the ground for the moment, bobbing her head to the beat as she smiled and scanned her audience for their reaction. The melody could best be described as enchanting, perhaps mesmerizing as it continued along, adding more and more instruments as each round passed by. Percussion, a second guitar, a flute, and even an accordion made its presence known, adding layer upon layer on top of the melody to create a whirlwind of sound that seemed to fill up the entire meadow. Usually, Ivory would be dancing at this point, but the Noctral had another idea... She began to sing, raising up on her hind hooves as her jingle continued to keep time.

Dancing to the feel of the Drum,
Leave this World behind.
We'll have a drink and toast to ourselves,
Under a violet Moon.~

Ivory's voice was melodious just by itself, even when she spoke under normal circumstances. But as she sang, Ivory brought her full voice out, which was every bit as soothing and enchanting as the music that enveloped the clearing... The Noctral walked along the front row, now striking the tambourine against her hip as she sang and swayed to the beat. During her first verse, she briefly stopped by Kindle and Pepper, giving them a small wink before she continued along down the row.

Ivory Star with her hair in curls,
Will make you turn and stare.
Try to steal a kiss at the bridge,
Under a violet Moon.~

With a bit more fire in her step, Ivory used her free hoof to twirl her mane a bit to imitate her lyrics, stopping just short of Schwambart as she leaned down to kiss his nose. It was difficult to tell whether it was genuine or simply part of the act, but as quickly as it happened, Ivory departed down the row, albeit with a bigger grin than before.

Raise your hats and your glasses too!
We will dance the whole Night through!~
We're going back to a time we knew,
Under a violet Moon!~

The music picked up substantially during the chorus, pouring even more energy into the atmosphere as Ivory passed by Lamplight. Without warning, the Noctral pulled Lamplight to her hooves, spinning her in circles a couple times before carefully letting her go. To those that have previously attended her performances, it should come to no surprise that Ivory enjoyed a bit of audience participation and interaction. More often times than not, however, Ivory was the one who unexpectedly participated and interacted within her own show, and she had a particular fondness of catching ponies off-guard with her actions. It kept everything spontaneous and fun, anything to keep the audience enjoying themselves.

Cheers to the Knights and Days of old,
The beggars and the thieves.
Living in an enchanted wood,
Under a violet Moon.~

Fortuneteller what do you see?
Future, in a card.
Share your secrets, tell them to me,
Under a violet moon.~

Wings unfurled, Ivory finally took to the night sky as she passed by Patches, beaming brightly as she continued to keep the beat with her tambourine. The Noctral had decided earlier that it would be one of her goals to make that mare smile at least once during her performance. Out of everypony that she saw or knew of here, Patches was perhaps the one most in need of a good time. Or perhaps she was having a good time, but simply not showing it... Ivory didn't dwell on the thought, however, and picked up speed as the second chorus cropped up. As her speed increased, Ivory began to leave what looked to be a trail of silvery-blue light-- an after image produced by the combination of her coat's sheen magnified by the moon's luminous glow. Through expert twists and turns, Ivory began to draw, using the night sky as her canvas. Her body's sheen acted as a sort of magnifying focus, causing the light to 'stick' for a few seconds.

Ivory started simple enough, executing a few simple patterns and shapes before moving on to her more advanced techniques, all while she continued to sing and keep the beat with her tambourine. And yet, despite all of her multitasking, all of her movements seemed to have the simple appearance of a dance. At first, her actions and movements didn't seem to make much sense, but before long, her 'painting' began to pull together, taking on the appearance of Princess Luna (Not -THAT- good, but something similar). It wouldn't last very long, unfortunately, but it's longevity would have been enough for everypony to enjoy for at least a couple minutes.

Nearly out of breath, the Noctral returned to the ground for the last chorus, now standing close to the musicians as the song rang out its final note. With another smile, Ivory took a small bow, signaling the end of her run. She had definitely given it her all this time, and now her golden eyes rested upon her audience, waiting for a reaction.

Ivory furrowed her brows stuck her tongue out sternly at the Gryphon when she mentioned 'Moonbutt', trying to put on the most serious face she could before the Noctral broke out in laughter once more. To be perfectly honest, Ivory had a hard time understanding Kit at first; her Manehatten accent and dialogue still was still quite prominent and hard to distinguish for Ivory's ears. With a blink of slight confusion followed by a quick shake of her head, the Noctral laughed nervously and cleared her throat.

"Oh my... Where to even start?" Ivory decided to dodge the subject of Rarity for the moment, having not known much about her to begin with... All she really knew about the mare was what she looked like, but the Noctral had no interest in her particular line of work, unfortunately. As lovely as her fashion lines were, she had grown accustomed to Kit's unique spin on fashion design. Kit's next question brought an involuntary blush to the Noctral, easily distinguishable through her lightly colored fur. "U-um..." Ivory started quietly, finally getting up to brush herself off. "Well... There is somepony I would like you to meet. He's actually a newer friend of mine, and--"

Ivory was cut off by the sound of the stallion in question, who was now approaching the pair and yelling something at Kit... The Noctral moved to intercept Schwambart, who now seemed to recede and cover himself up with a blanket, which she promptly lifted up over him with a rather sharp giggle. "It's okay, Schwambart... Kit, Schwambart. Schwambart, Kit," she said, looking at each of them in turn. "Kit's perhaps the first friend I ever made in Manehatten... In fact, I don't think I would have made it through school without her." Ivory broke off for a moment, her cheeks still flustered as she pulled the green stallion out of his hiding place for a small hug.

"Aaaanyways..." The Noctral continued, glancing up at the moon. "We have Schwambart here, Lamplight, Kindle, Pepper, Patches, aaaaaand Foxtrot, if I recall correctly. And I'm sure you'll like this particular performance, Kit.~ The instrumentalists have something special planned.~ Speaking of, however, it's about time for me to get up in the air. If you follow me, I can show you the best place to sit.~"

Ivory would proceed to guide anypony (and Gryphon) willing to follow to the staging area. There seemed to be plenty of open space and 'front row seats' next to the makeshift orchestra that had gathered which seemed to be rather small compared to other musical groups. "Here we are.~ Just find a place comfortable for you and I'll be on shortly.~

(Next post will be the actual performance xD)

"K-kit!?" The mare barely squeezed out the Gryphon's name before her rather large form (compared to hers) flawlessly pinned her to the ground with a rather loud oof and a small squeak of surprise. Ivory landed face up, blinking a few times to gather her bearings before her golden eyes landed on the familiar looking Gryphon. Then again, it was about the only thing her eyes landed on as the excited black and red Gryphon all but encompassed her immediate view. "Kit-Kat? Is that really you?" Ivory opted to use the nickname she had given Kit back in school-- a term of endearment that had first started off as a bad joke, but had grown into something the mare would often and fondly use to address the Gryphon. Kit had changed a little since the Noctral had last seen her, but considering the way she had just been greeted, the Gryphon hasn't seemed to change one bit.

A genuine smile pursed Ivory's lips as she raised a hoof to rap against Kit's chest, right below her neck where her feathers were at it's thickest. "It's good to see you, Kit. You've grown a bit... I can tell." Ivory chuckled a bit, coughing a couple times as she attempted to readjust herself. "Do I have dirt in my ears, or did you say you're moving to Ponyville? That's AWESOME!~" The Noctral's exuberant energy returned, half giggling and half squirming underneath her present captor. "Enjoy this while you can, Kit! I'll know it's coming next time!" Ivory laughed again, giving up on squirming for the moment as she simply laughed like a school filly.

Ivory could have fully expected the mysterious stallion to say, or to do anything at this point, but she certainly wasn't prepared for what he said first... " Well, it's about time Luna got her own fiesta."... The Noctral remained hovering in the air, a dumbstruck look plastered on her face while her idle wing speed went from a slow-paced beat to a rapid hum in just a couple seconds flat. Before the strange stallion even had a chance to finish, Ivory burst out in elation, flying laps around the robed figure before she finally simmered down enough to let him continue. "It's nice to meet you, Mr. Foxtrot!" Ivory finally took the opportunity to land, trotting right up next to him now that she was more comfortable with his identity. "I apologize for that earlier little... outburst, hehe," Ivory continued, chuckling nervously. "I just got really really excited. Do you know how hard it is to have somepony openly admit that Luna deserves a bit more acknowledgement? Nothing against Celestia, of course... They're both equal in terms of importance and obligations..." Ivory trailed off, Foxtrot's fatigue becoming quite apparent as she rambled on. "A quiet spot? The whole meadow is open to your liking. You're more than welcome to come sit with us to watch the performance.~"

After another short giggling fit, Ivory landed and turned to return to the group. She had seen something land out of the corner of her eye but payed little heed to its identity as the Noctral was too wrapped up in her own boundless excitement. It wasn't until Ivory heard somepony call her name that gave her reason enough to pause and turn to look... And what Ivory was met with was anything but a pony. In fact, it was a sleek, black Gryphon poised like a cat, her bright red accents highlighted even more in the moonlight. Ivory knew those colors... And she knew that pose all too well... The Noctral only had enough time to fold her wings and pin her ears back in surprise... As the saying goes, old habits die hard.

The Noctral continued to smile and wave as the trio of ponies made their way across the field to where they had situated themselves for the moment, the yellow mare seemingly leading the way with a beautiful black cat in tow. Ivory always had a penchant for animals, especially cats in particular, and it took nearly everything she had to refrain from scooping him up and lavishing him with affection right then and there. Growing up, Ivory only ever owned one pet: a stray calico kitten she had rescued on the streets of Manehatten, later named Duu, due to his two different colored eyes. Heterochromia, if she remembered her father's words correctly... Despite Ivory's love for animals, Duo was the only one that wouldn't meet her with flurries of claws, teeth, or talons.

Frowning in thought, Ivory dismissed the cat completely and turned her attention to the other two ponies behind the yellow mare. One was definitely a stallion... An orange Earth pony, to be more accurate. And the smell of... Peppers? Ivory blinked, trying to hone in on the faint aroma that seemed to be emanating from his general direction. How odd, she thought to herself. Surely her senses weren't tricking her? But as soon as the Noctral gave it half a thought, she dismissed that, too, as she spotted a familiar hat. And underneath that hat, an even more familiar mare. It had been quite some time since she had seen Patches roaming about, especially this late at night. Then again, that mare was an enigma; most don't even see her arrive, nor leave unless she made her presence known. And that was perfectly fine, given her somewhat secluded nature.

Offering yet another quick wave and an elated smile, specifically towards Patches, Ivory then turned her attention to the yellow mare, shortly named Kindle, who was now addressing her. "Good evening, Kindle and Pepper. And a special good evening to you, Patches.~" The Noctral finally landed to offer a hoof-shake, keeping her webbed wings folded loosely to her sides. While Ivory didn't notice Kindle's earlier ogling at her appearance, she was particularly pleased that she didn't outright ask what Ivory was. Or if she was allergic to sunlight. Or her personal favorite, if she ate other ponies. If only she had a single bit or two every time she heard that... "My name is Ivory Star," she continued. "Proud Noctral, honorary Pegasus, and one-hundred percent hard-working pony. And this here is something I would like to call a Lunar Festival. It's an event I've done here in Ponyville every couple months or so when the moon shines its brightest, but this is probably the first time I can call it a proper festival." Ivory beamed in delight once more, almost dancing in place. "Free food, free drink, good music, and I perform an aerial dance once the moon hits its peak. Think of it like a Summer Sun Celebration, but for Princess Luna.~ If you're willing to stick around for a tiny bit longer, I can show you what all this glowy-ness does."

As Kindle suddenly headed off to intercept her cat, Ivory redirected her attention to Schwambart who now seemed completely at a loss for some reason. The Noctral simply smiled as she listened to his response with a bit of a grin, trying to keep her giggling to a minimum... With little success. She was just simply too far excited at this point. With Lamplight, Patches, and Schwambart here, along with a myriad of new faces including Kindle and Pepper, Ivory was bound and determined to impress. "Would you like some help, Schwambart? I wouldn't mind carrying a couple of things. Also, take a deep breath, you goof. Count to ten. Exhale. I know you're nervous, but once the show starts, just sit back and relax." Ivory inched a bit closer, her genuine grin easing a bit, mostly due to her jaw starting to ache from smiling so much. "Just enjoy yourself, okay? If you're up to it, we could go get something to eat from one of these stalls after the performance. Or devour what's left of the cookies. Consider it a midnight picnic of sorts.~"

"Schwambart lived with me for a short time while he got his living arrangements in order," Ivory stole a glance towards Lamplight, finishing the green stallion's sentence as he trailed off due to the newcomers. "It's been... A few months. Half a year, maybe, since we've met. Since then, he's gotten his own place, and when he dropped by to visit recently, I invited him to this event." Ivory paused for a moment, her expression becoming more gentle and sincere, almost lost in thought. "I've rather... missed his company." It was a rather subtle hint between Lamplight and herself, but as quickly as the moment came, Ivory suddenly shifted her attention to yet another newcomer who seemed to be idling by the group.

Now there was an odd sight... A hooded pony sliding inconspicuously along between the group and the event site, and even with Ivory's trained eyes, she couldn't quite make out any of his or her features. The Noctral squinted, turning her head slightly to catch more moonlight to aid her sight. Male... Definitely a stallion... But that was all she could really pick out with the exception of a strange object of sorts, and perhaps the neck of his guitar, if it was visible. Perhaps he was a musician? Ivory glanced towards the others, seeing if anypony would lay claim to the newcomer, but instead she found Patches eyeing him cautiously... And if this stranger gave Patches enough reason to worry, perhaps he would need to be addressed. With all of her senses trained on the hooded figure, Ivory unfurled her wings and began to hover towards the stranger, giving a reassuring nod and smile to Pepper along the way. She knew that look all too well; the sense of loneliness and detachment was not an easy foe to fight. If Pepper decided to stick around, then maybe she could talk to him...

"Good evening, stranger,~" Ivory called out to the hooded figure. Maybe he was just shy? Or maybe he was just not from around here. In any case, Ivory couldn't deny that his behavior was suspicious... The glowing Noctral hovered just out of hoof's reach, hoping to use the light she now generated to cast some answers as to this stranger's appearance. "You here for the Lunar Festival? We've got plenty of room.~"

Ivory smiled delightfully at Lamplight, trotting in place as her excitement seemed to be reaching critical mass. "It's amazing times infinity!~ Mr. Fore--I don't know if you know him--helped set this whole thing up as a giant surprise. Maybe now the other residents will take some form of interest. Of course, I'm going to have to get a few more things together for something official official, but that's for a later time.~" The Noctral slowed down just enough to get her words out properly, but she came to a complete stop as Schwambart began to drop things and tried to address her... She giggled outwardly, reaching out to give him a hug before she suddenly found a cookie presented right in front of her.

Blinking in confusion, Ivory simply noms the whole cookie in one bite. She wasn't one to pass up a free cookie, and if his cookies were anything like his brownies, then Ivory might make the effort to take off with the whole plate. Its sweetness was perhaps an ounce overbearing, but for a sweet-fiend like Ivory, it was perfect. After a few seconds of chewing and happily dancing in place, the Noctral finally spoke up again. "Yes, I know I'm glowing. Well, kinda..." Ivory paused to look herself over; the moon's glow, depending on which direction she was facing, was only just strong enough to bring her coat to a dull, yet noticeable shimmer. "Moon's not quite in full swing yet, although when it is, everypony around me will definitely know. Just ask Lamplight~." Ivory smiled once more to the mare, giggling softly before trying to achieve some sort of eye-contact with Schwambart, now curious about his glasses, or lack thereof. The Noctral decided not to bring it up for now, although she swore she remembered something about him being as blind as a... well... bat. She payed no mind to his stuttering or his attempt to change the subject, already knowing full well that this was just normal for him. Or at least as far as she could tell... Regardless, she moved to sit right in front of him, still wearing that genuine smile she flew in with. "I'm really glad you came, Schwambart. I was afraid that I may have scared you off somehow. By the way, the cookies are incredible.~"

Ivory then pushed off the ground, hovering slightly in midair before redirecting her attention to Lamplight. "Miss Lamplight, this here is Schwambart, another really good friend of mine. Since this is his first time here and we have a completely new setup, how about I guide you to the best place to sit? I can even stick you by the musicians, if you'd like.~ They have something special prepared for this performance, and I. Can't Wait!~" As Ivory did a little aerial backflip in excitement, she spotted something yellow coming their direction... "Hello~," she waved, now overly excited again.

While Ivory made small talk with some of the more familiar faces around the camp, she couldn't help but notice that she was being studied rather meticulously by many of the newcomers that were in attendance. Most were conspicuously... inconspicuous, hesitant to approach yet quick to label the Noctral as something strange or uncanny, much to her chagrin. To most, Ivory was an unknown mystery who often shut herself away at home, only emerging for work or a casual midnight stroll. Regardless, it was Ivory who broke the ice, often finding some common ground between fine-arts and the like, even performing acrobatic stunts for the curious fillies when the opportunity arose. With just a simple act of kindness, Ivory was no longer viewed as some sort of anomaly in the Ponyville radar, but a good-spirited friend.

After visiting with both old and new guests alike, Ivory decided to take to the sky to get a better aerial view of the venue as well as get a feeling for the night's wind conditions. While the moon wasn't properly positioned quite yet, the Noctral's passive gleam was unmistakable against the backdrop of the night sky. She stayed mid-air for a few moments, sweeping her head side to side as she managed to spot a few ponies that were within area, watching from a distance. Three of them had  similar, brightly colored schemes of red, orange and gold, easily identifiable against the rolling green of the meadow And speaking of green, there was a fourth, less vibrant pony that blended quite well within the grass... Colors and features aside, they were curious enough to at least investigate the event. All that was left was somepony to show them the way.~

Ivory wasted little time floating towards one of the groups, beaming almost childishly in excitement as she landed near the closest pair. Her smile broke into a sharp, ecstatic squee as she recognized both Schwambart and Lamplight. Folding her wings in place, Ivory trotted up to the pair, "Oh! Excellent! You guys came!~ Isn't the new setup absolutely fantastic? Somepony did this all in just a couple hours while I was out for a moment. Oh, and Schwambart! I'm really glad you could make it."

Ponyville / A Ponyville Lunar Festival
« on: April 30, 2014, 04:17:00 am »
Ivory Star sighed quietly, smiling softly to herself as she sat and gazed lazily across the smooth horizon overlooking the outskirts of Ponyville. With a silvery-blue hoof placed gingerly above her golden eyes, the Noctral peered silently in thought at the setting Sun, dipping lower and lower beneath the unbroken skyline, like a vast weight sinking slowly into the Earth itself. As its glorious light began to disappear from view, a subtle blanket of ebony crept steadily, purposefully across the sky. For a few, breathtaking moments, the two forces of light and dark seemed to meld seamlessly together, painting the sky brilliant, vivid hues of orange, red, and violet, growing dimmer yet more profound as the Sun's rays receded from view. One by one, tiny little stars, now unhindered by the Sun's overwhelming light, peered timidly into view above their ebony canopy, twinkling faintly amongst their growing number of brothers and sisters. For a moment, everything was perfect... Serene... Beautiful... A moment truly worth all the inspiration the world had to offer, and more. And to know that no matter who you are, or where you are on this world, all you had to do was look up at the sky... And for that brief moment, you could be connected to any infinite number of ponies also looking up at the sky. It could be your neighbor... It could be somepony across town, in another city, or even halfway across the world... A truly, truly magical moment.

The tranquil twilight came and went nearly as quick as it had started, leaving Ivory in a state of wonder as she simply stared at where the sun had once been, its last fringes of light casting a luminous glow upon the rising, full moon. In just a few more minutes, the incandescent moon would sit itself high in the sky, casting its protective, silvery glow across the land. It was time... The Noctral finally stood up, stretching her leathery wings and yawned softly before taking a quick glance over her shoulder as she adjusted her mane and tail. There was a faint light in the distance from the camp she had set up for tonight's performance earlier that day, and the unmistakable sound of ponies playing and talking were quite clear to Ivory's keen ears. There must be at least over a dozen, not including the musicians, she thought to herself... Perhaps the advertisements she had been posting around town earlier in the week were finally catching curious eyes. The trouble with putting on a late-night performance lied simply in the fact that most ponies enjoyed their beauty rest and couldn't be bothered to stay up and watch, which would be completely understandable. The simple prospect of the matter, however, still tugged at Ivory's frustration. Ponykind created a holiday to hail Princess Celestia and the Sun, namely the Summer Sun Celebration, and ponies would travel far and wide to attend such a grand festival. Why couldn't there be a night to honor Princess Luna and her Moon? Surely the Princess of the Night deserved some special recognition... Right?

Ivory shook her head with a bit of a gruff, now trotting over the hilly meadows to make her way towards the camp. Regardless of the number of guests in attendence, she was absolutely positive that her impromptu festival would be a huge success and could even attract more ponies for the next one. Perhaps even Princess Luna herself would make an appearance! Just the mere thought brought a warm smile to Ivory... But for now, a simple, humble meadow and a few curious ponies would do...

As Ivory approached her destination, she was surprised to discover that somepony, or perhaps a group of ponies had taken the liberty to spruce up the camp while she was out. A few personal mats and wooden stalls had been set up for various baked goods with small lights strung up between their posts. A definite improvement from just sitting on the ground around a small campfire, but Ivory still couldn't help but wonder: why... Before long, she had found out that the improvements were suggested by a former shop owner who had attended her last performance and wanted to see it grow into something more... Free food, free drinks, games for the younger ponies, musicians collaborating with one another as they strolled or flew around the camp. With about twenty guests that she could see, this was shaping up to be more of a proper festival than she had first thought. For now, Ivory still had some time before her performance, so she set her sights on meandering with the other ponies, keeping an eye out for friends along the way.
