Er... wasting candy was all part of a plan? Well, Resin was confused. Maybe it's some way of leaving a trail for her friend to follow so they could meet back up? She did mention plans for if they got separated, but Resin wasn't sure exactly how long abandoned candy would last during a holiday where groups of kids were out and about hunting for such things. Eh. Whatever. If she had a plan she had a plan, and Resin didn't know enough details to question it.

At Brash' question, Resin paused at the start of the next path leading to a house's door, "Yeah, I am, and yeah, it is... See, I only just moved to this town so I didn't really have anypony to go trick or treating with. And this place is a lot smaller than Canterlot, so I guess the school here doesn't really organize a group for it. Least none that I heard of at least."

"Er... Kay. Sounds easy enough," Resin replied, taking on the responsibility of the chant as he adjusted his mask and then pointed a hoof at the candy Brash was deliberately leaving behind, "You're leaking candy, by the way." He joked more to ask a question of why she was doing it to begin with than to actually warn about her decreasing stock of sugary treats. Another thing she had said had also brought a second question to his mind too, and he asked it as he turned to start walking towards the next house. "Where did your friend go anyway? That pegasus just seemed to dash off like she'd seen a real ghost. Seems an odd night to get spooked by something like that."

Resin had never heard Nightmare Night be described as a backwater town holiday before. Maybe this pony just never liked it, but such an attitude made Resin think that this foal have also been in some way new to this kind of environment. Sounded like an attitude he'd more expect from a pony back in the city. Oh well.

"I'm pretty sure most ponies out here are more interested in fun than they are in winning," Resin replied, the idea that a kid couldn't see the appeal of dressing up in a fun costume and getting free candy not even being able to fully register for him, "I mean, I had barely any time to work on my costume so there's no chance I could ever win, but I was still having an... a pretty alright time." Sorta lonely, but candy was still candy.

"I mean, even the general mood of this town for Nightmare Night is better than it was back where I used to live. Even heard that the Princess shows up for the night here to hang out with everypony, though so far I dunno if that's just a rumor. What were your preparing for anyway? Pranks?"

Resin approaches the house as the owner is busy greeting the other two foals. He slowed a bit though as he neared the door, the odd silence taking place between the kids and adult making him wonder if he was missing something or if this was some form of silly prank that was lacking in any apparent punchline. Was the prank just to confuse the grown up with awkward silence? Or was this some weird small town method of trying to dead stare somepony into giving up extra goods?

Before he could further contemplate the possibilities, the foal in the armor costume suit thingie suddenly attempted to bite the pony with the candy, this only succeeding in confusing Resin even more as the other kid soon fell over and was dragged before being abandoned.

Small town ponies were weird...

Resin trotted up to the door and gave the usual "trick or treat!" to the adult while offering his pillow case to be filled, him waiting for the stalliuon to deliver sweet delicious goodness before turning around and hesitantly walking over to check on the filly stuck on her side.

"Er... Are you alright?" he asks, keeping enough distance between them to avoid any possible chance of the filly deciding to bite him as well for whatever reason.

Uuuuugh! See! That's why it was so frustrating to have had so little time to work on his costume! Resin was becoming increasingly jealous of the more impressive costumes the ponies around him were wearing, many of which having been made or assembled custom. Being from the city he supposed he expected most ponies to have just picked up some costume from a store just like how he also expected most of the candy he would get to be in tiny bite sizes due to the larger number of kids begging for sweets, but while the latter being false was a nice surprise the former was making him self conscious over his own mask and sheet.

So, again, uuuuuugh!

He sighed then tried to figure who he would follow next, a pair of ponies with some kind of double team costume deal going on catching his attention. Was that a storm cloud shooting lightning at a suit of armor? Or... Wait... Armor clad monster? He couldn't quite tell from where he was, but a short sprint to get to the proper side of the street cleared it up a bit more as he lingered behind. Following two ponies probably made him look kinda silly - following any did, really - but again his old city life made the idea of knocking alone feel... just... weird. This  pair was closest to the houses he still needed to hit... most other colts and fillies were off further away... so... Follow this pair to the next house was the plan! He tried not to be obvious about it, keeping some small distance back with the plan of trotting up when they neared a door to harvest some candy from grown ups, but it wasn't like he was invisible to anypony not blind.

"Trick or treeeeeeat~!" a group of early going colts and fillies sing songed another house as their hunt for candy was being kicked off to a strong start, the mare they'd half asked half threatened with the promise of tricks chuckling and using her magic to float over a hoofful of candy to distribute amongst the young ponies. A little mummy got himself a few pieces of bubble gum, a mad scientist got a couple fun sized candy bars, a lazier colt dressed as a "good student" carrying just a backpack as a costume got a small mint chocolate coin, so on and so forth. All the while the mare had short little exchanges between the youngins about their costumes, how well their nights had gone so far and what they were hoping to accomplish before the night was out, some hoping to amass a years worth of candy others talking about keeping an eye out for the Princess of the Night and others still almost letting slip plans to cause al kinds of chaos once they had been fueled with enough sugar. All went smoothly up till the last pony had stepped up to receive his fair share of the goods, the colt having been lingering a bit behind as he hadn't actually been a part of the click that was patrolling and instead was just sort of tagging along to skim some candy without having to knock on the door by himself.

His costume was an odd combo of cheap and clear effort being made. The body of the young pony was covered by a mere sheet with a few holes cut out here and there, the most bare bones attempt anypony could make towards a ghost costume if that was their intention, but his face was actually spooky mostly due to the mask he wore. It was just a simple piece of canvas cut out then stuck to a piece of board - most likely cardboard - then tied around his head with a piece of string. Again, really simple, but it was the artwork that was selling it, a legitimately spooky, in a fun way, face of a ghoul lookin creature in mid moan, special detail taken for the small things to add to the spook factor. It was better artwork for a mask than anypony could really find in the average costume shop, but the rest of the costume screamed having either forgotten about the rest of the costume or merely run out of time before he could finish it.

His bag, unlike the other ponies before him, had a heavier item thud into his bag that hit with almost enough weight to pull the pillow case he was using out of his hooves and fall to the ground. After a quick clarification over how he had made the mask himself, the mare gave him and the rest of the group a wish for a fun evening before returning back inside and leaving the foals to celebrate their newly gotten goods. Needless to say, the masked pony was a bit confused about what he'd been given, him trotting a short distance away and rummaging through his bag while the other kids left to continue on with their candy hunt. It didn't take him long to find, his bag still being pretty empty this early on, and in moments he was holding up a gray object in his hoof, nhis other hoof being used to pull up his mask so he could see better, a tan muzzle poking out of a larger hole cut into the sheet for candy tasting purposes while two brown eyes peeked out from smaller holes cut just above the larger one.

"... I got a rock?" the colt wondered aloud, a sudden surge of confusion mingled with theories galloping through his mind as he tried to make sense of this. No. He couldn't have literally just been given a rock in place of candy after seeing other ponies get away with chocolate and bubble gum. A few seconds were spent examining the rock, it being turned over and over in his hooves as he hummed and narrowed his eyes at the strange acquisition.

... Maybe it had been a mistake? Or some kind of joke he wasn't catching on to? Should he go back and ask? Nah, he'd look silly going back to the house to question that durn adult about this wrench she'd thrown into the workings of his young mind. Had he been a more mischievous pony, surely the colt would have begun to consider the idea of egging a house or two as revenge for this transgression.

Then he got an idea. An idea that he would have neeeeeeeever acted on had he actually been out with a group of friends or others that could have seen and teased him over it. Slowly, carefully, and eventually hesitantly, the young pony started to stick his tongue out and bring the rock closer to his mouth, his face slowly twisting up in anticipation for the possibility of grussness coming right for his taste buds as it inched closer. And then his tongue met the rock and...!

It tasted sweet. Like candy. It took a couple seconds for it to click, his tongue taking an experimental lick of the rock before retracting back into his mouth to savor the taste better. A rock that tasted lik-ooooooooooooooooooh!

Oooooooooooooh!

Rock candy.

Hilarious.

Resin felt silly as he dropped the rock back into his bag and surveyed his surroundings, keeping an eye out for any other groups of kids going from door to door that he could mix in with. Gosh darn it. Not having any friends yet in town really was making this Nightmare Night tricky when it came to avoiding embarrassment. Would just be awkward to go up to doors by himself, no matter how nice the ponies in this town were, and sure he was recognizing colts and fillys from his class beneath the costumes and make up every now and then, but he still wasn't sure if he knew any of them well enough to ask if he could hang out with them for candy gathering good times.

Hmm... Maybe he should just go back to the shop and suffer through his parent's boring adult party that would be going on soon... Least he was sure they would have cake, but that would be so laaaaaaame...

No! He would at least fill up his pillow case with a respectable amount of candy first! No matter how tricky it would be! And afterwards he would go to the main festivities in town once all the games and junk started!

Determined, Resin used one of his hooves to flip his mask back down into its place before hefting his light and barely filled bag up and over his shoulder so he could trot onwards.

Original Character Profiles / Resin
« on: September 04, 2014, 10:32:04 pm »
Name: Resin

Race: Pegasus

Gender: Male

Age: Colt

Physical Description: Has a light tan coat similar to old parchment paper and a dark magenta mane and tail tussled up in a bit messy of a natural style as his parents have given up trying to keep his hair orderly. His eyes are brown and carry a kind of gleam whenever hes working on one of his scribbles, and his cutie mark is a paint brush leaving behind a long stroke of paint that transitions from blue at its starting point mixing with and then changing into yellow before doing the same with the red still coating the brush's bristles.

Special Talent: Painting/drawing

Likes: Art projects, creative writing, a blank canvas, sharing his art with others, checking out and examining the new arrivals in his parent's shop and most things that can exercise his imagination.

Dislikes: Slow days, not having an outlet for his creativity, actually helping around his parent's shop as opposed to just window shopping himself, thunder, sports as he isn't any good at them and flying too high as he isn't used to it yet.

Strengths: Resin's best strength is his imagination and how he can use this to often think outside of the box, but he also displays pretty decent patience for a pony his age and can prove rather loyal to his friends even during normally scary situations.

Weaknesses: His strengths can also be his weaknesses as they have drawbacks. His imagination, while helpful at times and always nice for his art, can sometimes cause him to not think outside the box but actually be *stuck* outside of it, leading him to often not even notice a simple solution to a problem and instead try to think up something far more complicated. His loyalty can also be an issue if used against him as he dislikes disappointing his friends and can give in to peer pressure pretty easily.

Fears: Moving back to Canterlot. He disliked the city and has overheard his parents discussing the idea from time to time in the past. Resin also has a small phobia of the dark and still requires either his door to remain **** open or a nightlight to sleep. Overly loud noises, like particularly booming thunder, can also scare him pretty badly to the point of making him want to hide under his blanket.

Bio: Resin is a creative young colt belonging to two ponies in Canterlot currently doing their best to keep a small antiquities and magical oddity shop running as per his father's desire with mixed success. Canterlot had been their first choice for setting up shop as the higher traffic and more reliably magically interested unicorn population would have guaranteed better business, and they'd even already been living there at the time, but with the price of both acquiring and maintaining the space necessary for such a venture being so high in the capitol city of the country, Resin and his parents were forced to move to Ponyville instead, much to the young colt's delight as he at the time, due to some frequent switching of his schools, had few if any friends left and disliked city life. Believing it too noisy and full of far too many harsh ponies for somepony who had his particular interests, Resin was perfectly happy with doodling in his many notebooks and sketchpads, keeping up his love of art first taught to him by his mother for whom it was already a hobby.

Today Resin has only just reached the "settled in" part of his move to Ponyville, his more shy personality having made it take a little longer for him, and has no friends yet to speak of which as of right now is perfectly fine with him as he occupies himself with painting in his room, hanging around his family's store or just doodling whenever at school or hanging out in his front yard.

Extra Details: Enjoys trying creative writing whenever he has no art supplies beyond a pencil, but he is not exactly fantastic as most of his stories are the usual simplistic tales a young colt would be assumed to write about where he often jumps right to the monster slaying.

Thinks snakes are kinda scurry and refuses to believe that they aren't slimy.

Still has a security blanket that he keeps under his bed. Sometimes still goes for it if the lights go out or there is a storm outside. Will never admit to it.

Once got a small mention in a Canterlot newspaper for a painting he made for a school art event.
